About Funny Real Korea
Hi, and welcome to Funny Real Korea.
Korea is having a moment. K-pop, K-dramas, Korean fried chicken, skincare routines with eleven steps — it's everywhere. But most of what gets written about Korea in English falls into two camps: dry academic explainers nobody finishes reading, or clickbait listicles written by someone who spent four days in Seoul.
This blog is the third option.
What we do here: We dig into the real stories behind Korean food, culture, and daily life — the parts that are genuinely fascinating, occasionally strange, and often funnier than you'd expect. Why wasn't kimchi red for most of its history? Why do Koreans ask your age within thirty seconds of meeting you? What's actually happening at a Korean BBQ table that nobody explains to foreigners?
We research this stuff properly — historical records, academic sources, primary documents — and then write it the way you'd want a friend to explain it. No lectures. No tourist-brochure fluff.
Who this is for: Anyone curious about Korea. Travelers planning a trip, people who fell down a K-drama rabbit hole, food nerds, language learners, or anyone who just wants to understand what they're eating and why it matters.
What you'll find here:
- Korean Food Origins — the real histories behind the dishes
- Korean Culture Explained — the unwritten rules nobody tells you
- Survival Korean — practical phrases that actually work
- Travel Tips — for people who want more than the standard itinerary
New posts go up regularly. If something here made you go "huh, I didn't know that" — that's the whole point.
Thanks for reading.
